Gubernatorial appointment brings public-interest voice to state board overseeing property appraisal profession
BOSTON, MA — Jason Andrade, Director of Research and Membership Engagement at the Partnership for Financial Equity (PFE), has been appointed by Governor Maura Healey as a public representative to the Massachusetts Board of Registration of Real Estate Appraisers. The Board oversees the licensing and regulation of real estate appraisers in the Commonwealth.
The appointment comes as questions about fairness and equity in home valuations have drawn increasing attention in Massachusetts and nationally. Property appraisals can have a direct impact on home purchases, refinancing, and the ability of families to build and pass on wealth.
“An appraisal is more than a number—it can shape a family’s opportunity to buy a home, build wealth, and create greater financial security,” Andrade said. “I am honored to serve the Commonwealth and bring a strong public-interest perspective to the Board’s work.”
Andrade leads PFE’s research and engagement efforts on financial equity, housing, and access to economic opportunity. His appointment brings that perspective to the state board responsible for overseeing the licensing and regulation of real estate appraisers. The appointment also underscores the growing importance of public confidence in the appraisal process.
Jason Andrade resides in Brockton with his wife and two children. Prior to PFE, Andrade served as Director of Financial Services at Compass Working Capital.
“Confidence in the appraisal process is essential,” Andrade said. “Homeowners and homebuyers deserve to know that property valuations are conducted fairly, professionally, and without bias. The integrity of that process matters not only to individual families, but to the health and stability of entire communities.”
Thomas Callahan, executive director at PFE, said Andrade’s appointment reflects the importance of ensuring that public voices are represented in the institutions that oversee critical parts of the housing finance system.
“Jason brings exactly the kind of perspective that public service demands: a deep commitment to fairness, a careful understanding of how systems affect real people, and a willingness to ask important questions,” Callahan said. “We are confident that he will be a thoughtful and valuable voice on the Board.”
For Andrade, the appointment represents an opportunity to contribute to a profession that sits at a critical intersection of housing, consumer protection, and wealth creation.
“Homeownership remains one of the most important pathways to building wealth in America,” Andrade said. “That makes it critically important that the systems supporting the housing market work fairly for everyone. I look forward to serving the Commonwealth and helping ensure that the public interest remains at the center of the Board’s work.”
